It's Time to bring ATVs to the streets of Texas!
Pass The Freedom To Ride Act Now!
Pass The Freedom To Ride Act Now!
Texans deserve the freedom to ride—safely, responsibly, and legally. Modern ATVs and UTVs are equipped with lights, mirrors, signals, and safety systems that rival motorcycles, yet they’re still banned from public roads due to outdated laws written for a different era.
We’re working to pass the 50 MPH Bill, a new law that would allow registered, insured, and properly equipped ATVs to operate on roads with speed limits of 50 mph or less—just like they already do in states like Arizona, Utah, and Montana.
This isn’t about chaos. It’s about clarity, safety, freedom, and equal rights for riders across Texas.
We’re advocating for a new Texas law that would allow registered, insured, and properly equipped ATVs and UTVs to operate on public roads with a speed limit of 50 MPH or less.
Under the proposed law:
✅ Vehicles must have headlights, turn signals, brake lights, mirrors, a horn, and insurance
✅ Riders must hold a valid driver’s license
✅ Helmet laws would mirror current motorcycle rules
✅ ATVs/UTVs would be treated like any other motor vehicle—equal rights, equal rules
This change brings Texas in line with states like Utah, Arizona, and Montana, where similar laws have already proven safe and effective.
🧠 Did you know?
Most modern ATVs and side-by-sides already meet the performance and safety standards of other street-legal vehicles. This law simply brings the regulations up to date with the machines Texans are already using.
Legalizing ATV and UTV use on roads isn’t just about convenience for riders—it’s about revitalizing local economies, enhancing rural transportation, and reducing congestion across Texas.
Here’s what communities stand to gain:
💰 Rural Economic Boost
Small towns in other states have seen increased tourism, business for local diners, gas stations, and lodging from ATV riders traveling between towns—just like riders do on the Newfoundland Trailway in Canada.
🚜 More Mobility for Working Texans
Many Texans already use UTVs for ranching, farming, hauling, and getting between properties. Legalizing short-distance road use makes this safer and more efficient, especially in unincorporated areas.
🚗 Less Congestion, Fewer Big Trucks on the Road
ATVs take up less space, use less fuel, and are more maneuverable than large personal vehicles. For short trips around town or between fields, they’re the smarter option.
🛠️ Easier to Enforce = Safer Roads
Legalizing properly equipped vehicles creates clear rules for law enforcement and keeps unsafe, illegal riders off the streets by giving people a legal path.
We’re not a lobby. We’re not a company. We’re riders, workers, and everyday Texans who want to ride responsibly—and be treated fairly.
